How to vote in Kelowna's 2026 municipal election

What you're actually voting for

One ballot, three offices

Kelowna votes at large, which means there are no wards. Every voter in the city votes on the same eight council seats. Most people don't realize they get eight council choices, not one.

Where to vote

Voting locations by day

You can vote at any open location on a given day. You are not assigned to a particular voting place, so pick whichever is most convenient.

Can you vote?

Who can vote

On the day you vote, you must:

• be a Canadian citizen
• be at least 18 years old
• have lived in B.C. for at least the past six months
• be a resident of Kelowna, or have owned property in Kelowna for at least 30 days before you vote
• not be disqualified from voting under the Local Government Act or other legislation

What ID to bring

Bring the right ID

Accepted ID includes: driver's licence, BC care card, BC identification card, social insurance card or letter, ICBC insurance documents, credit or debit card, a utility bill, or a rent receipt.

Property owners who live elsewhere also need proof of ownership and a document showing the property's legal address and description.

• In person at the Office of the City Clerk, City Hall, 1435 Water Street

Deadlines

• Tuesday, September 29 is the last day to request a ballot delivered by Canada Post.
• Tuesday, October 13 is the last day to request a ballot for in-person pickup.

Ballots are mailed starting October 1; pickup at City Hall on October 13 and 14 only.

Returning it

Your ballot must be received by 8 p.m. on October 17:

• In person at the Office of the City Clerk, City Hall (2nd floor)
• Drop box at City Hall beside the main Water Street entrance
• By mail to: Office of the City Clerk, Kelowna City Hall, 1435 Water Street, Kelowna, BC V1Y 1J4

Accessibility

Accessible voting

• All Kelowna voting locations are accessible, including accessible voting layouts.
• Curbside voting is available on request for anyone unable to enter the building.
• Assistance is available. Someone of your choosing, or an election official, can take an oath to translate during registration or help mark your ballot.
• A voter assist terminal, an electronic option for marking your ballot privately and independently, is at Parkinson Recreation Centre on every advance and general voting day.
• Special voting runs in some long-term care facilities in coordination with Interior Health, and at Kelowna General Hospital during set hours on general voting day.

What happens when you get there

Three steps

1. 1

   Check in. Show ID, confirm you're on the voters list or register on the spot, sign a declaration, get your ballot.

2. 2

   Mark it. Behind the privacy booth. Make your choices for each office. Return it in the secrecy sleeve.

3. 3

   Cast it. Feed the ballot into the tabulator as directed. Done.
